Research projects

  • The Cameroon 2008 Burkitt lymphoma Protocol: Improved Event Free Survival with Treatment adapted to Disease Stage, and the Response to Therapy. PB Hesseling et al Accepted for publication by Pediatric Hematology and Oncology.
  • A study into the causes of delay in diagnosis and treatment of children with cancer at Mbingo Baptist Hospital. Survey carried out by Dr Francine Kouya at Mbingo Baptist Hospital. It was an oral presentation at SIOP Capetown in March 2012, and a poster presentation at SIOP London in October 2012. The work gained prizes at both meetings.
  • The start of a further modification of Cameroon 2008 protocol, now called Cameroon 2011 Protocol. This Study is in progress. Results will be presented at SIOP Capetown, 2011, and SIOP London, 2012.
  • A study on the potential value of cellphones in the follow-up of children with BL. For presentation at SIOP Auckland, 2011
  • A study of the impact of nutritional status on BL. For presentation at SIOP Capetown, 2011
  • The epidemiology of BL in the NW Province of Cameroon; a follow-on from the earlier study.
  • A Survey of Traditional Medicine in patients with BL. Presented at SIOP Boston (Mass.), 2010

  • Presentation of the Epidemiology of BL in the NW Province of Cameroon; 2007 Congress of SIOP, Mumbai.
  • The use of a modified version of the Malawi 2002 protocol; now called Malawi 2003 Protocol. Presented at the 2005 Congress of SIOP , Geneva, 2006
  • The use of a treatment protocol, developed in Malawi, for the management of Burkitt’s lymphoma (BL). The Malawi 2002 Protocol. Presented at the 2005 Congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology, (SIOP) Vancouver.
